- Afrirent Holdings (Pty) Ltd hereby issues this stakeholder statement in response to false public allegations circulating on social media platforms, including X (formerly Twitter) and TikTok, which purport to link Afrirent to improper conduct in relation to government tenders, including references to the City of Johannesburg, and which further suggest that Afrirent is the subject of proceedings or investigation by the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into Criminality, Political Interference and Corruption in the Criminal Justice System.
- The purpose of this statement is to provide stakeholders with a clear and accurate record of Afrirent’s position in relation to these allegations and to address the ongoing misuse of the Commission’s name by unidentified third parties.
- Afrirent expressly, unequivocally and fully denies all allegations of unlawful, improper or irregular conduct.
- Afrirent further denies any false assertion or implication that it has engaged in improper conduct in relation to government tenders, including any purported conduct involving the City of Johannesburg.
- The allegations presently circulating in the public domain are denied in full and are regarded by Afrirent as false, misleading and harmful to its reputation.
- Afrirent is a South African organisation with a reported 23-year operational track record in the provision of fleet management solutions to public and private sector clients.
- Afrirent records that it conducts its business within applicable procurement, governance and legal frameworks.
- Afrirent respects the mandate, independence and processes of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into Criminality, Political Interference and Corruption in the Criminal Justice System.
- As at the date of this statement, and on the basis of Afrirent’s records:
- Afrirent Holdings (Pty) Ltd and its affiliates have not received any summons, notice, directive, request for information, or other formal communication from the Commission indicating that Afrirent is under investigation or that its operations are the subject of inquiry.
- Afrirent has formally sought written clarification from the Commission regarding false public allegations purporting to link Afrirent to the Commission.
- Nothing in this statement should be construed as an admission, concession, waiver, or acceptance that there exists any lawful basis for the allegations currently circulating.
- Afrirent records that the continued publication and amplification of these allegations is causing material and unjustified reputational harm.
- Accordingly, Afrirent reserves all of its rights and remedies arising from any false, defamatory, unlawful or otherwise actionable publication by any person or entity.
- Nothing in this statement limits or prejudices any of Afrirent’s rights, all of which are expressly reserved.
- Afrirent remains willing, without prejudice to its rights, to cooperate with any lawful process of the Commission should the Commission require information through proper channels.
- Afrirent respectfully urges stakeholders, partners, clients and members of the public to rely on verified facts and formal communications rather than unsubstantiated social media commentary or anonymous allegations.
