Senzo’s unwavering work ethic and desire for self-improvement led him to explore different job opportunities. He transitioned from washing dishes to being a waiter at an Italian restaurant in a newly opened mall. Fueled by ambition, he then secured a position as an assistant food and beverages manager at a prestigious five-star hotel in Sabi.
However, his path to success was still evolving. Fate intervened, and in 1990, while working as an operations manager for a company overseeing restaurants in the renowned Kruger National Park, Senzo stumbled upon an opportunity that would change his life forever.
During his tenure at Kruger National Park, Senzo’s pursuit of new prospects led him to a breakthrough. A contract to supply linen to various hotels emerged, and he swiftly registered his first company, Siyenza Consulting, to seize the opportunity. This milestone marked the beginning of a remarkable entrepreneurial journey, bringing Senzo face to face with numerous potential avenues for success.
As his business acumen sharpened, Senzo honed his ability to identify opportunities within the market. He adopted a philosophy of buying contracts from fellow entrepreneurs who, due to financial constraints, were unable to complete their projects. By refurbishing these contracts and then selling them at a profit to construction companies, Senzo solidified his reputation as an astute businessman.
His career trajectory took an even more promising turn when he purchased two second-hand trucks at an auction. Recognizing the profit potential in truck rentals, he leased these vehicles to a fleet management company, generating a monthly income of R35,000. Bolstered by this success, Senzo proceeded to expand his fleet, eventually renting out a total of nine trucks.
Taking yet another bold step forward, Senzo registered Indalo Fleet Solutions, a fleet management company that secured its first government contract worth R37 million with the Bushbuckridge Local Municipality. This pivotal achievement propelled Senzo’s business ventures to new heights.
In 2017, rebranding as Afrirent Holdings, Senzo broadened his business horizons, diversifying into financial services, fuel supply, vehicle tracking, waste management, and the hospitality industry. Indalo Hotels and Leisure, Sobantu Rent To Own, Afrirent Logistics, Afrirent Energy, Skukuza Golf Club, Afrirent Auto, and Indalo Investments all operate under the auspices of Afrirent Holdings. These thriving subsidiaries have generated contracts valued at R1.5 billion, forming working relationships with prominent entities such as the City of Johannesburg, Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa, and Lafarge South Africa, among others.
Nevertheless, Senzo’s achievements extend far beyond financial success. His heart is deeply rooted in philanthropy and community upliftment. Through his organization, Senzo demonstrates an unwavering commitment to education by providing university tuition, accommodation, and a monthly stipend to 15 to 20 deserving students. Additionally, his organization purchases groceries worth R3,500 for 220 households in his native village, ensuring that basic needs are met for those in need.
In 2021, Senzo further expanded his hospitality empire by acquiring Hans Merensky Hotel, Golf and Spa through an auction. Renaming it the Baphalaborwa Hotel, Golf and Spa, he set out to restore the establishment to its former glory. Alongside this endeavor, Senzo was awarded a tender by SANParks to construct a 110-bed hotel within the park, near the Phalaborwa gate.
